ANOTHER NEW WILDCAT- EXTREMELY PROMISING
Hi All
We are so excited to tell you that another wildcat has been found, that was previously unknown to us. This is the second one in the last couple of months. As you know, we never give out the precise locations of the sightings as we don’t want them taken from the wild by the government and put into zoos, but this one was found in Aberdeenshire.
Just look at the head and nape stripes, the beautifully striped body markings and that that thick, ringed tail with no tapering at all. A magnificent animal that is still out there, living wild and fulfilling key ecosystem functions. We are now hopeful that others will be found in the area and we will be expanding camera trapping after Easter. You can see the time it decided to appear on the picture. Three minutes after midnight. That is why these cats are so mysterious and fascinating as they rarely if ever, show themselves during daylight hours.
It's just so exciting to know that there are still wildcats our there living free. We need to find every single one of them and make sure that they are fully protected. They are so precious. And remember, it is far easier to conserve and protect animals that are already living free, than to breed in cages and release them. IUCN guidelines and indeed most sensible conservationists, always prioritise in situ conservation over captive breeding and release programmes. There is a narrative being propagated that the wildcat is functionally extinct in Scotland, well somebody clearly forgot to tell this cat that it’s not supposed to exist……..
That is why we continue our efforts and remain the only conservation organisation, solely focussed on conserving the magnificent wildcat in the wild, where it belongs.
We hope you enjoy seeing this picture and we hope to show you more in the coming weeks.
There is so much going on and will have updates on our Forestry Commission complaint and of course Finlay, after Easter.
